Comhairle na nÓg

18th Nov 2022

On Tuesday the 15th of November, we (Emilie, Andrew and Alice) all went to the Mansion House to be part of Comhairle na nÓg. This really was an honour to represent St. Mary’s N.S. in the community.

The Mansion House was chosen as it was the first meeting place of the Irish Dáil in 1919. The age of the group ranged from 12-17 and offered a wide range of views across the county. We were lucky to be welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Conroy, who told us all about the role of Comhairle na nÓg. We discussed the important issues effecting young people in Dublin such as the cost of living, racism, global warming, gender equality and the education system.

After lunch and many discussions, we were tasked with selecting one key focus for the year. As a group we had narrowed it down to

  • Gender Equality
  • The Cost of Living
  • Education

After a final vote Education was selected.

It was a very insightful experience and we are all really excited to go to more meetings and discuss the pros and cons of the education system in Ireland throughout the year.
